Whether light shifts immune-cell activity after jump training was the question in a 2025 randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial. 22 physically active men aged 18 to 25 received 904 nm light and 36 J per leg after a jump-based session, with immune cells in the blood and inflammation signals measured before, just after, and 72 hours later. Study Title: 830 nm light-emitting diode (led) phototherapy significantly reduced return-to-play in injured university athletes: a pilot study.

Laser Before Exercise Aided Muscle Recovery in Athletes

20 male athletes, 9 professional volleyball players and 11 adolescent soccer players, took part in a 2009 randomized double-blind crossover trial of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) for muscle recovery. 830 nm light at 100 mW delivering 3 to 4 J per point reached both front thigh muscles for 30 to 40 seconds per point, 2 times per week over 7 days, before high-intensity exercise. The researchers reported that the blood lactate and markers of muscle damage shifted with the laser, which the trial linked to faster recovery. However, the small treated area may have limited the effect.

The findings revealed that Inflammation markers, muscle damage, the stress hormone, and heart measures showed no faster recovery, apart from an isolated drop in a single muscle-damage marker.

Blood lactate clearance, peak power, and recovery did not differ between the treated and placebo conditions at the settings used.
